You might be thinking… copper for a water bottle? We get it.
Not only is it stylish, but there’s plenty of evidence of the positive benefits of storing your drinking water in copper:
- Studies have shown that copper removes bacteria and impurities from water due to what is called the ‘oligodynamic’ effect – the antimicrobial properties of certain metals.
- Copper is an essential trace mineral that our body requires for metabolic functioning
- Copper helps neutralize toxins, ionize and balance the pH in water making the water fit for consumption.
Made by Rustico
In spring of 1998, Isaac Childs was addicted to traveling and journaling. He was headed on a backpacking trip to Europe and debated getting six journals… but that would’ve been overkill, so he bought five. He wrote like mad. The post-college trip ended, but he had managed to track all 9 weeks of the journey!
That same year he was on a road trip to Glacier National Park. As he pulled his journal out of a rucksack, a page fell to the ground. The next day…again, another page gone. He was ticked at how the low-quality workmanship put into this journal was slowly destroying his treasured entries. Then and there—something sparked.
Isaac needed a journal that was maul-proof and functional— it had to last longer than he would. After a disappointing search, enrolling in a bookbinding course, and a few dozen $100s later, he found himself hunched over a hide of top-grain leather and a full ream of 100% imported, cotton rag mill paper. He was on a mission to craft it right with all the proper ingredients.
Before long, he had teamed up with his best friends. They made two goals: 1) bring back authentic American craftsmanship 2) business will never get in the way of friendship.
They are a family of artists—handcrafting inspiring lifestyle pieces at their workshop in Orem, Utah. It’s a journey. And they love it.
Kindness in Action
At Sercy we believe in the importance of giving back. Being KIND is cool and it starts with you! We are proud to donate a portion of the proceeds from this dog tag necklace to the Kind Campaign, an incredible nonprofit organization that brings awareness and healing to the negative and lasting effects of girl-against-girl bullying through their global movement, documentary film, in-school assemblies, and educational curriculums.
Chemicals will weaken the leather over time. Be patient. Its ruggedness will grow in character with you. Don’t be afraid of a scuff. Lick your finger. Rub it in. The oils from your skin shape the patina’s look over time. So go ahead. Handle it! Avoid leaving leather for extended periods of time in direct sunlight or extreme heat.
Please note: copper dents easily.
